Boy, 9, Shoots 13-Year-Old Sister in Head Because She Wouldn’t Give Him Video Game Controller
A nine-year-old boy has shot his sister dead after she refused to relinquish a video game controller to him, in Monroe County, northeast Mississippi.
The 13-year-old girl died at Le Bonheur’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis on Sunday night at around 7 p.m. The names of the boy and girl have not been made public.
Monroe County Sheriff Cecil Cantrell said the girl was shot in the head from behind and that the bullet passed through her brain. It is not yet known how the boy gained access to a gun. “He’s just nine,” Cantrell said, according to Clarion Ledger.

“I assume he’s seen this on video games or TV. I don’t know if he knew exactly what this would do. I can’t answer that. I do know it’s a tragedy. This is all new ground for us, we’ve never dealt with a kid shooting a kid at age nine.”
Cantrell said the investigation would not be rushed.
“We don’t know yet what kind of charges or if charges will be pressed. We want to make sure we’re doing everything correctly. That’s why I’m not too fast to say anything because there are juveniles involved. We want to do what’s right and we’re going to get it right.”
