India has told Pakistan that the safety and security of Indian High Commission, its officers, staff members and their families is the responsibility of the Government of Pakistan.

The Ministry of External Affairs has taken a grim view of the continuing incidents of harassment and intimidation of Indian officials in Islamabad.

On March 19, two officials of the High Commission went shopping to Safa Gold Mall. They were aggressively followed by two persons in a car (Toyota Corolla) in close proximity at various locations, MEA sources said.

On the same day, two officials of the High Commission travelling in an official vehicle were aggressively followed while going shopping to a Super Market, by two unknown persons on a motorbike.

The website of the High Commission of India continues to be intermittently blocked. This is causing inconvenience and has affected normal functioning of the Mission, the sources said.

Such incidents of harassment, intimidation and threats to physical security of diplomats and officials are in violation of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, and a threat to the security and safety of the personnel of the High Commission of India, they said.

Pakistan has been requested to immediately investigate all these incidents and direct the relevant authorities to ensure that such incidents do not recur. Results of the investigation may be shared with the High Commission, Pakistan has been told.
