The number of senior citizens in Delhi getting old age pension rose to 4.20 lakh in the current fiscal (till December 2017), recording an increase by 8.9 per cent over the past five years, according to the latest Economic Survey of the national capital released today.
The number of beneficiaries under the 'Pension to Women in Distress' increased to 2,03,631 in current fiscal from 1,76,778 in 2016-17.
About 75,600 persons are provided financial assistance under the scheme Financial Assistance to Differently-Abled Persons in 2017-18 (till December 2017) and during the financial year 2016-17 it was 71,581.
About 7,000 households were provided financial support under the National Family Benefit Scheme during the year 2016-17, according to the survey.
The government is providing financial assistance for purchase of stationary, scholarship/meritorious scholarship to SC/ST/OBC/Minorities students studying in class 1 to 12th.
The Delhi government also reimburses the tuition fee to SC/ST/OBC/minority students studying in public schools. The merit scholarship is also given to college/university students belonging to such communities, the survey stated.
Besides, 95 Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) projects with a network of 10,897 anganwadi centres are providing nutrition, health services, vaccination, pre-school activities to about 12 lakh children (up to the age of 6 years) and pregnant/nursing mothers in 2017-18 (up to December 2017).
The honorarium for anganwadi workers (AWWs) has been increased from Rs 5,000 per month to 9,678 per month and for anganwadi helpers from Rs 2,500 to Rs 4,839 pm in 2017-18, according to the survey.
