NEW SMYRNA BEACH – Florida Hospital New Smyrna recognized Linda Schutte of the environmental services department with the Starfish Award. This award recognizes employees that are not nurses, but still provide impactful, compassionate patient care.
She was nominated by a former colleague.
“I had passed out in the hallway near the emergency department... I didn't know it at the time, but she dove behind me and stopped my head from hitting the floor, hurting her hand,” he wrote in his nomination of Schutte. “I can't thank Linda enough for what she did. I was in the emergency department and found out that I was severely dehydrated. The emergency department staff were great, but Linda probably saved me from getting a concussion.”
