A 72-year-old Kirkland man was in serious condition after a single-vehicle crash Friday, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Police responded to the crash on Leland Road, a half-mile north of Suydam Road in Leland, to find Frederick Helmold’s vehicle overturned in a ditch. Helmold was traveling north on Leland Road when he lost control and the vehicle overturned. He had to be freed from the vehicle because he was trapped. Helmold was taken to Valley West Hospital in Sandwich, and immediately transferred to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford because of his injuries.
