ACT Policing investigate suspected bikie shooting in Chifley

A man shot in Chifley early Monday in what police suspect was a bikie-related incident sought medical assistance at a service station.

ACT Policing was called about 6.30am with reports gun shots had been fired in Maclaurin Crescent, Chifley. More calls were made when a man with gunshot wounds asked staff at a BP petrol station on the corner of Melrose Drive and Botany Street for help.

The man was taken to Canberra Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police called to the site of the shooting reported damage to several vehicles and other property.

AFP Forensic Services is examining the scene where the shots were fired and the service station.

Acting superintendent of criminal investigations Shane Scott said such acts would not be tolerated in the ACT.

"This was a brazen targeted shooting which resulted in injuries to a person and damaged surrounding property," he said.

"Any incident that involves firearms raises risk to the safety of the wider community.

"Taskforce Nemesis, and all ACT Policing officers will continue working to prevent and disrupt the activities of outlaw motorcycle gangs and their members."

Motorists with dash-cams who were driving in the area, including along Melrose Drive, are asked to check their footage for suspicious activity.

ACT Policing is urging anyone who saw any suspicious activity in Chifley or Phillip around 6.30am Monday, or who have any information or CCTV that could assist police, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via its website.
