The District Administration recently held an interactive session with the intellectuals and scribes of the city on finding ways to improve the quality of the century old Gwalior Trade Fair.
The session began with formal introductions and a brief history of the Gwalior Trade Fair, and then the stage was opened for suggestions and new ideas to improve its quality.
The programme organised by BM Sharma, the Working President of the Gwalior Trade Fair and Divisional Commissioner was attended in large numbers by journalists and intellectuals of the city. One of the main suggestions by them was that the image of the Trade Fair and all proposed changes must be in accordance with its dignity and decorum.
Another suggestion was to have the Fair running throughout the year, so that more people from across the country can visit it. One scribe suggested that the location of the Exhibition and Sculpture Sector should be shifted to some other area which is more noticeable so that it can attract more visitors.
Another suggestion was to convert the Trade Fair premises into an Enjoyment Park with food courts and other attractions for youth and children. A further suggestion came up that a Stone Park be developed and set up in the Trade Fair premises.
Most of the participants agreed that the Trade Fair has been on a decline ever since the government withdrew subsidies, especially in the automobile and electronic sectors. They asked the Divisional Commissioner to bring this matter to the notice of the state government and ensure that subsidies are given as in the past, which in turn will attract more companies and customers. The intellectuals and scribes also suggested that new ideas and proposals should be invited from the Gwalior Chamber of Commerce and such other organisations.
