A 72-year-old Kirkland man was in serious condition after a single vehicle crash on Friday evening, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.
The sheriff’s department responded the crash on Leland Road, a half-mile north of Suydam Road, in Leland, to find 72-year-old Kirkland resident Frederick Helmold’s vehicle overturned in a ditch. Helmold was northbound on LeLand Road when he lost control and the vehicle overturned.
He had to be extracted from the vehicle because of entrapment. He was then transferred to Valley West Hospital in Sandwich, then immediately transferred to St. Anthony Hospital in Rockford because of his injuries.
