Thousands of homes in Melbourne without power due to high winds
High winds have knocked out electricity to thousands of homes in Melbourne.
At its peak, there were 25,000 homes without power on Sunday, Channel Nine reported. By 7pm Sunday night, there were still 8000 homes affected.
Powercor spokeswoman Emma Tyner said strong winds moving across the state had cut power to thousands of customers across the CitiPower, Powercor and United Energy networks."Crews are working to restore power to about 8000 customers in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs, along the Mornington Peninsula," Ms Tyner said.
"Extra crews that were on standby on the weekend have been deployed to assess and fix faults."

Ms Tynor said most houses in Melbourne should have power back by Sunday night.
"We expect to have most United Energy customers back on supply by this evening," Ms Tyner said.
Customers will be updated on expected restoration times via text message or on power company's websites, she said.
