State police have charged a Dover man with his fourth DUI.

State police spotted a gold GMC pickup driving erratically on Bayside Drive south of South Little Creek Drive in Dover around 9 p.m. Saturday, but said the driver did not pull over when police sirens went on.

Instead, the vehicle proceeded on to Bay Road northbound, before exiting on to East Lebanon Road, eventually coming to a stop in its 1700 block, police said. That was nearly 5 miles from the point where the officer first tried to pull him over, police said.

Police said they smelled a strong odor of alcohol on 54-year-old David Johnson. They arrested him and charged him with his fourth DUI; disregarding a police officer signal; driving while suspended or revoked; aggressive driving; failure to have proof of insurance; and five counts of failure to remain in a single lane of travel.

Johnson was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in lieu of $5,705 secured bail.
