The state government has decided to link all block and tehsil headquarters with two-lane roads by the end of December this year. All tehsil headquarters barring 26 have already been linked with two-lane roads.
Out of the total 850 development blocks in the state, 160 are still to be linked with two-lane roads. The government has also decided to widen all roads in the state to two-lane roads.
Reviewing the progress of Public Works Department in Lucknow on Saturday, Chief Secretary Rajiv Kumar said that all link roads be constructed in all 1,557 villages with population of above 250. He said all roads in the state will be widened to two-lane roads and work on 12 roads of 96 km will be completed by June end under the original estimate of Rs 237 crore.
On linking district headquarters with four-lane roads, Kumar said that all the remaining work on this project be completed by the end of March 2019.
On making roads in the state pothole-free, the Chief Secreytary said that all remaining work be completed within the next financial year beginning April 1. He said that the work on the sanctioned small and long bridges and rail over bridge be completed by the end of December this year.
