Search is on to find the best amateur royal photos in Britain
THE search is on to find the best amateur royal photos in Britain to create a picture biography of the Royal Family. People will be asked to send in snaps for The Crown From The Crowd project – that will record a century of monarchy.
The idea came from Karen Murdoch of Watlington, Norfolk who captured a beaming Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Christmas Day at Sandringham last year.
The image of the so-called “Fab Four” appeared on the front of most of the national newspapers the next day, and was reproduced worldwide.
The 39-year-old mother-of-one, who said she was amazed at the “bonkers” reaction to her photo, is backing the project.
Rory Scott of Photobox, the firm compiling the images, said: “This is nothing short of a photographic archaeological quest for long-lost royal treasures lying forgotten in the nation’s attic archives. A blend of royal reportage and citizen photojournalism.”
GETTY
More than 300 shortlisted photographs will feature in a 160-page coffee table book that is to have a commentary by historian Dominic Sandbrook.
It will be published to coincide with Harry and Meghan’s wedding in May.
All proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Help For Heroes military charity.
The project will be launched on Tuesday. Submissions will close on April 2, ahead of the book’s launch on May 8.
