The spring festival of Gudi Padwa, which marks the traditional new year for many in Maharashtra and Goa, among others, was celebrated with pomp and show on Sunday. Another festival to mark the new year, Ugadi, is also celebrated on the same day by many in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana.
