Jose Mourinho has tore into his Manchester United stars.

Manchester United progressed to the semi-finals as Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic scored the goals which secured a 2-0 win.

However, after the match the Portuguese boss launched a scathing attack at some of his players for their attitude on the pitch.

The manager thought that his side were “scared” of playing football and did not want the ball - despite playing at home against a so called ‘lesser’ team.

And when Mourinho was giving his analysis he refused to name which players he was angry with - but did praise Matic for his goal and assist.

A few of the other guys were scared to play. I cannot say much more

"I prefer to name the good ones," Mourinho said.

"Matic was an island of personality and quality and reaction to the defeat of last Tuesday.

“Of course, not surrounded by water, surrounded by other people that did a positive job.

"For example Scott [McTominay] played on his side, Scott played the worst match since he played with me in the first-team.

Nemanja Matic scored the second goal against Brighton.

“But he is a Manchester United player for sure, because he's the player that made mistakes, passed the ball so bad tonight, lost so many passes, but big personality to cope with a mistake.

“A few of the other guys were scared to play. I cannot say much more.

“I think is the relation with personality, is the relation to trust, is a relation to class, and when the sun is shining and is a period in football where everything goes well, you win matches, you score goals, everything goes in your direction, every player is a good player, and every player wants to play and every player wants the ball, every player is confident and every player looks amazing."
