Whether you can offer a little or a lot of time, you are needed!
Camp Quality Kansas is a south central Kansas non-profit organization, heading into its 12th year of offering year round activities including a week of camp to children who currently have or have had cancer.
As you can imagine, it takes many volunteers doing many different things to continue having all of these programs year after year. People come and go, and that is to be expected, but currently we are extremely short on staff members.
People are needed who are willing to serve on the Camp Operating Committee (acts as a Board) and fill key positions such as volunteer coordinator, computer IT and media liaisons, just to name a few.
Also needed are people who are willing to serve as “at large” members who could help with some extra events, such as the Spring Gathering,Fall Reunion, Christmas party, and, of course, camp itself which is held for a week in July at Camp Hiawatha in Wichita. Whether you can offer a little or a lot of help, you are needed!
Camp Quality is looking for new ways to attract more companions who are matched one on one with the campers. This unique approach allows for a “buddy” to be assigned to each camper. The two stay in the cabins together, eat together, participate in all of the activities together and quite often form a lifelong bond. Companions are encouraged to stay in touch with their camper throughout the year and to attend camp together as long as they can.
You will be hooked once you join in! Anyone who is interested is encouraged to check out the webpage or Facebook Page – Camp Quality Kansas. If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Turnage at (316)258-4207 or contact our director, Susie Mooney at (913)424-8355 for more information.
Sadly, there is more and more need for a camp such as this for children who continue to be diagnosed and battle cancer. It would be heartbreaking if the experience to the kids can’t be offered simply because enough people don’t volunteer to help.
