Constance Mae (Novak) Short "Connie," 63, of Solon, passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, March 17, 2018, after a two-and-a-half year struggle with cancer. Connie was the daughter of William and Irene (Vanorny) Novak. Connie grew up
on the family farm near Oxford.
Connie is survived by her husband, Steven of Solon; and their blended family of five great kids, three sons, Joseph (Ana and Zach) of Iowa City, Michael (Erin) of Portland, Ore., and Jonathon (Caroline) of Swisher; two daughters, Kaci (Dave) of North Liberty and Samantha (Logan) of Cedar Rapids; one grandson, Harrison of Portland; her two brothers, William (Marcia) Novak and Norman (Lisa) Novak, both of Oxford; one uncle, Leonard (Karen) Vanorny of Ely; one aunt, Blanche Volesky of Cedar Rapids; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and their families, and an even larger extended family. Can't forget her BFF, Kay of Portland, Ore.
Connie enjoyed a 40-year career at the University of Iowa, first at the hospital, then at the College of Dentistry.
Connie wishes to thank all of her doctors, nurses and staff at the U of I Hospital, Hospice of Iowa City, co-workers, family and friends for their compassion and care. She thanks her neighbors for their help and watchful eyes. Special thanks to Sue, Teri and Barb. Extra thanks to Diana, Deann and Shannon with hospice and to all the staff at U of I Community Home Care. The list of thank yous is unending.
Connie was never happier than when she became "Babi" to her grandson, Harrison, who was born in December 2016. Per Connie's wishes, there will be no funeral service. She has donated her body to the U of I Hospital for cancer research. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
