David J. Spence, 77, of Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 16, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 23, at the Stateroom in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial will follow at Castek Cemetery in Swisher.
David was born April 17, 1940, to John and Louise Falstrom Spence, in Boone, Iowa.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ghislaine "Jiss;" Aaron Spence, Shelly Jensen (Jeff), Brenda Van, Anne Nederhoff (Anthony), Naomi Hilleshiem (Gary), Esther Anderson (Nathan), Michael Ludvicek (Simona) and Jerry Ludvicek; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, John Spence (Esther).
David was preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise Spence; his son-in-law, Khiem Van; and an older brother, Daniel Spence.
David and his wife were involved in a prison ministry for the past 11 years and were known as the "Western Gospel Duet." He had a passion for sharing the Gospel in word and song. He was a true lover of souls and his beloved wife's soulmate.
A memorial fund may be directed to the family.
