A 10-month-old boy has died, while his mother and two-year-old sister are in hospital after a carbon monoxide leak in a Barrie home Sunday morning.

Barrie Fire information officer Sarah Hoffmann said emergency services were called to the home around 8:30 a.m., by the father who came home from work and happened upon the scene.

Barrie Police told Global News that the mom and boy were found unresponsive, while the two-year-old was conscious.

Hoffmann said all three were rushed to a Barrie hospital. The mother and daughter have since been transported to a Toronto hospital.

Police said the mother is in critical condition and the girl is stable.

Police said carbon monoxide levels were dangerously high at 200 parts per million when firefighters entered the home. It was not equipped with a detector.

All homes need to have at least one detector located in the sleeping area, Hoffman said.
