My character is not perfect. But I was happy I got a rare opportunity to play such a character,” says Namit Khanna, who is all set to play the lead in Sony TV’s newly launched finite series Yeh Pyaar Nahi Toh Kya Hai. The love story goes on air today (March 19). Produced by Bindu & SJ Studios, it also stars Palak Jain, Anuraag Arora, Alka Amin, Ankit Raj and Shahana Verma.

Talking about his character Siddhant Sinha, the actor says, “He’s a lawyer. He hates rich people but he himself wants to become rich at any cost. He is very dedicated towards what he wants.”

Namit, who has worked in web, is making his debut on television with this show. He says that as they have already shot 40 episodes, things are pretty much set. “I know everyone and we understand each other’s work including the technician’s. But I am still getting used to the long hours and hectic schedule. But it’s good being part of the show because TV is a writer’s medium and our writer Dilip Jha is a veteran with 25 years of experience. His expertise shows in every scene I read. It’s amazing to have such talent behind you. You just go with the flow because it’s so beautifully written,” he smiles.

The model-turned-actor was first noticed in the web series Twisted. After playing such an interesting character on web, the actor says that his focus for TV was to choose something that would excite him. “I do not know much about television but I can say one thing for sure that nothing like this has been written on television before. The makers have treated the show as a film. Dilip sir also started off the story keeping Palak and my character in mind. It was so different from what I have done before,” he says, adding that after working in Twisted, he was being offered similar kind of roles. “Several producers offered me movies with similar kind of stories and these films have already released. I wondered, ‘Do I want to do this again?’ Unfortunately in India, people lack that kind of imagination,” he signs off.
