KOLKATA: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly dragged inside an under-construction building and was raped by youth from the neighbourhood in
Garden Reach area in the capital city.
Police said, the girl was returning from a friend’s house taking a desolate Ramnagar lane in the evening when Sheikh Rinku Alam, 23, allegedly grabbed her from behind and dragged her inside the building.
“According to the complaint, the youth gagged her and raped her inside the empty compound till she lost consciousness. The youth fled the area after the crime. When she regained her senses later in the night, she somehow got back home and told her parents about the ordeal later on Saturday,” said a senior officer of Garden Reach police station.
Based on the complaint filed by the woman’s mother, police arrested Alam, who lives a few blocks away from their house at
Mogra Talab. He was produced before a city court on Sunday that sent him to police custody.
Cops have booked him under IPC sections 366A (procuration of a minor girl), 376 (rape) and section 4 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
