Ruth Ina Fisher, formerly of Beaver, Pa., passed peacefully on her 97th birthday (PI day) at Country House, Greenville, Delaware. She was born at home in the rectory attached to the Meyersdale Methodist Church in southwestern Pa. Brother Dan was born four years later. Parents: Clarence Conrad Fisher - a chaplain in the Army during World War II and Methodist minister; mother, Mildred Deyo Fisher - a registered nurse. In 1939 Ruth graduated from Dormont High School in Pittsburgh. She completed a five-year nursing program at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa.; finishing clinical work at Presbyterian University Hospital in Pittsburgh with a BA of Science in 1945. Ruth then obtained her Masters in Nursing Education at Columbia Teachers College in New York. In her career, she served as a medical surgical instructor at Sharon Hospital's School of Nursing, as an instructor in nursing, Presbyterian Medical Center, N.Y., and a nurse, Rochester General Hospital. Ruth arrived in the Beaver Area School district in 1953 and spent 30 years working with elementary through senior high students as a school nurse. She served in nursing organizations that supported her profession. Retiring in 1983, she was able to devote more time to church, gardening, friends and travel. In 1996 with the company of Luke (her miniature schnauzer), Ruth moved to Delaware to be close to her younger brother and family - Ruth spent twenty-two wonderful years in Delaware. Ruth was predeceased by Dan and his wife, Hallie Jean Fisher, and nephew, George Fisher. She is survived by two nieces, Susan Williams and husband Michael; Carol Oates and husband Thomas; and grand nephews and niece, Cade Fisher, Anthony Cutrona III and Andrea Coleman and their spouses and children. Family and Country House friends are invited to a memorial service at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 22nd at Country House, 4830 Kennett Pike, Wilmington, DE 19807. Burial will be private.
