With Congress president Rahul Gandhi had reportedly made his mind to remove Raj Babbar from Uttar Pradesh and assigned him some new task, the hunt is on for new President of Uttar Pradesh.

Sources said that after withdrawing their step of bringing in a Brahmin face Sheela Dikshit, who was projected as Party’s chief ministerial candidate in last Assembly elections in 2017 and later her name was dropped after the Party went ahead in alliance with Samajwadi Party, top bosses in Congress as well as Rahul Gandhi is seriously thinking to once again play `Brahmin’ card by bringing in some member of the community as State President.

Sources in the Party maintained that Pramod Tewari, who will be for the first time in his over three decade long carrier will be without any assignment as his membership to Rajya Sabha will end in next Month, is making all efforts to get the favour of top bosses as well as Rahul Gandhi to became State President. However, if his personal track record has been kept aside, the Party high command is not in his favour as he failed to give any boost to the Party in his carrier despite of remaining Congress Legislative Party leader for more than two decades.

The second prominent Brahmin face who is also leaving no stone unturned to become State President is former minister Jitin Prasad, whose father Jitendra Prasad also remained as State President. Sources said that despite of Prasad being a youth leader and having good popularity within the Party, his lost in the recent Assembly elections create hurdle for him to be crown as State President.

Sources said that when Rahul was still confused over Tewari and Prasad, another name of former MP from Varanasi, Rajesh Mishra also gathered momentum. However, a very senior leader of the Party claimed that former MLA Laliteshpati Tripathi, who is great grandson of veteran Congress leader, Pandit Kamla Pati Tripathi, is a `dark horse’ in the race and it would be not surprising if Rahul Gandhi would give him the task of reviving the Party.

The leader claimed that Laliteshpati is youth and energetic and an ambitious leader, the qualities which is very important for a Congress president in present as the Party needs serious dedication and hard work to revive it in this biggest state of the country. The leader also said that another advantage with Laliteshpati Tripathi is that his great grandfather Kamlapati Tripathi is still having a respectable name amongst the members of his community and that could attract them to look back towards Congress. Besides the above, the name of at least half a dozen more leaders including backward leader RPN Singh, Rajaram Pal were going round the corner to be next president of Congress.
