The visitors are in front!

Canberra look seriously fatigued and Mitchell Pearce puts Sione Mata'utia over to score and put the Knights ahead in the dying stages.

The Knights have peppered the left hand side but they've come the other way and struck gold almost immediately.

Ponga can't convert and it's a two-point game.

Was that the moment Newcastle will live to regret?

Kalyn Ponga broke through Canberra's line and did everything right - until his final pass couldn't hit the mark.

But wait... the Raiders have dropped the ball two plays later and the Knights are in prime field position.

It was a carbon copy of the one that went begging not too long ago - except Connor Watson got the ball down this time.

The Knights five-eighth swooped on a Nathan Ross grubber to score and put Newcastle right back in the contest.

Every time Newcastle have been in an attacking position, Kalyn Ponga has been involved - he has come up trumps almost every time.

Ponga adds the extras and it's a two-point game with a lifetime to play.

Blake Austin links up with Croker and the Green Machine are in front. The Knights have given away six penalties on the trot - they're not doing themselves any favours tonight.

The Raiders are up by eight points with 18 minutes left, and the Green Machine's attacking weapons are really starting to fire.

A 40/20 from Sam Williams puts Canberra in golden territory and the Knights give away two consecutive penalties. If Newcastle keep this up, they could be in serious danger of playing a man down for 10 minutes.

Jarrod Croker knocks over a penalty goal to put the hosts in front. That one could be crucial given the way this game is panning out.

Newcastle five-eighth Connor Watson bombs a certain try when he spills a grubber over the line.

It's good riddance in the eyes of Canberra fans, with the Knights lucky to get away with a questionable call just moments earlier.

That one would have been a cruel blow for the Raiders, who were on the wrong end of a bad first half in round one.

Yep, Kalyn Ponga is legit.

Ponga sets up another try for the Knights with Tautau Moga going over for a four-pointer. It went to the bunker with concerns Sam Williams had been impeded in the defensive line but there was minimal contact.

Ponga's ball-playing this evening has been first class. Both teams need to be more resilient on their own line.

How did Junior Paulo get that ball away?!

Paulo slips a pass out of a three-man tackle in remarkable fashion to put Whitehead over for his second try. The big man has plenty of skill.

It's not the start Newcastle were after - three straight penalties and an error was a horror way to open the second half and it ultimately gifted Canberra the lead.

Second half underway

Coaches Ricky Stuart and Nathan Brown could have given the classic "she's nil-all out there boys" speech at half-time and they would have basically been right.

It's 14-all and all to play for in the second half.

Penalty goal Raiders; Half-time

We're at the halfway mark and this one looks like it might follow the classic battles of the past two seasons between these two sides.

The Raiders have had the lion's share of possession but Newcastle's defence has held out for the most part. Exploiting the Knights' left edge looks like the go for the Green Machine. Newcastle have had plenty of chances but have coughed up the ball at crucial stages.

Blake Austin threatened to slice through in the final minute but was brought down by Ross at the last moment. A penalty follows, and Croker draws Canberra level.

The Raiders endured a horror start to the second half against the Titans last week so it is imperative they get off to a good start in the second stanza.
