Taiko drummers to perform at Ormond library
The Tampa Taiko Japanese drumming ensemble will perform 2 p.m. Monday, March 19, at the Ormond Beach Regional Library, 30 S. Beach St. The performers, who use taiko drums made from discarded wine barrels, have developed a dynamic fusion of old and new styles of drumming, bringing a contemporary vibrancy to an ancient martial art form. Taiko drums are percussion instruments that date back to at least the sixth century in Japan. They were used to drive away pests, bring rain, celebrate events, lead warriors into battle, and intimidate the enemy. For information, call the library at 386-676-4191, option 4.
TSA precheck enrollment event
The Transportation Security Administration will host a precheck enrollment event from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, March 19, at the Daytona Beach International Airport baggage claim area, 700 Catalina Drive, Daytona Beach. Butterfly garden seminar
The Garden Club of DeLand and Jim West will host a butterfly garden seminar 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, at 865 S. Alabama Ave., DeLand. West will teach how to plant a garden that attracts butterflies. Korean veterans to meet
All veterans who served in Korea at any time are welcome to attend the 189 Korean Veterans will meet noon Tuesday, March 20, at VFW Post 3282 located at 5810 S. Williamson Blvd., Port Orange.
