Doe catches her head in a garbage lid in Cranbrook

That poor deer.

A conservation officer in Cranbrook sprung into action recently after a doe was spotted with a garbage can lid stuck around its neck.

The officer “immobilized” the doe so that the lid could be removed.

The object was taken off the doe and, 25 minutes later, she woke up without anything hanging from her neck.

She then rejoined her two fawns, the B.C. Conservation Officer Service tweeted.

News of the doe’s rescue came one day after time ran out on a permit that allowed the City of Cranbrook to cull 50 deer in an effort to lower conflict with humans.

During the cull, the City of Cranbrook removed 30 mule deer and 20 white-tail deer from a herd in the area.

The city also donated 1,852 lbs. of game meat to three non-profit organizations.
