DANBURY — A Danbury man was arrested late Friday night after police say he smashed his girlfriend’s car window while she was inside and then stole her purse.

A 33-year-old woman said she was pulling in the driveway of a home on South Well Avenue when her boyfriend, Abraham Esau Ramirez, 26, came out of the house yelling and demanding she and the car’s passenger, a juvenile, get out of the car.

Police said some of the people involved live at the home but it was unclear who. The juvenile was about 12 years old, police said.

When the woman refused to open the door, Ramirez used a snow shovel to smash the driver-side mirror off the car and break in the driver-side window, police said. Ramirez then grabbed the woman’s jacket through the window and began shaking her as he yelled.

The woman told the police she was able to break free and escape with the juvenile out the passenger-side door, but lost her shoe in the process. The two victims then ran down the street and returned to the house when police arrived.

The woman said when she returned to the home she checked the car for her purse, which was gone. She told police she thought Ramirez ran off with her purse, police said.

Ramirez was charged with risk of injury to a child, fourth-degree criminal mischief, sixth-degree larceny, breach of peace, disorderly conduct and threatening. He is being held on a $50,000 bond.
