Make healthcare affordable: Governor

more-in

Priorities of the common man, which include access to potable water, education, employment and healthcare, should be addressed since a lack of access to those facilities leads to alienation, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan said on Friday.

He was speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-organised conference on ‘Reimagining and Rebuilding Telangana’. “Today, why does the common man feel alienated? It is because he says healthcare is not affordable to me,” Mr. Narasimhan said.

While some can afford to pay big, fat medical bills, Mr. Narasimhan expressed concern over the middle-class’ access to affordable healthcare.

Touching upon technology, the Governor said it cannot replace ‘human touch’. He said that academia and industry, and government and industry should work together. “Restore human touch and restore it as a part of technology,” he said.

Mr. Narasimhan also asserted a civil society is essential and that it should behave responsibly.

With a change in leadership effected in the CII, Sanjay Singh, divisional executive-ITC Ltd, is now Telangana chairman. D. Raju, CEO and MD, Kirby Building Systems India, has been elected vice-chairman.
