Lionel Messi says he's a less selfish player now

The Barcelona sensation will go down as one of the game’s greatest ever players - if not the greatest.

And he is helping his club scale new heights this season as they close in on another La Liga title and have a big chance in the Champions League.

Messi has had to alter his game as he ages, and he now believes he more of a team player than ever before.

“Before I got the ball and did my own game,” he told America TV.

“Now I try to play for the team. That the ball goes via me more and I don’t try and finish things off as much.”

He added: “Basically I am not as selfish. I try to build the play from a different position.

“I continue to run the same as before but in a different way.”

Messi has scored seven in his last five games including the double against Chelsea on Wednesday night.

He also set up Ousmane Dembele for the sensational second goal at the Nou Camp.

The 30-year-old is the early favourite for another Ballon d’Or award ahead of Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Kevin de Bruyne.
