Arsenal news: UEFA to confirm Danny Welbeck ‘diving’ decision on Monday

UEFA are expected to announce on Monday if Danny Welbeck faces retrospective action for an alleged dive in Arsenal's 3-1 win against AC Milan on Thursday.

Welbeck went down in the box after a coming together with Milan left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.

After a short delay, the referee awarded the spot-kick which Welbeck converted to make it 1-1.

Arsenal won the match 3-1 with Welbeck getting a second goal late on but much of the talk after the match was not on the safe passage into the quarter-finals but whether the England striker had dived.

Alan Shearer accused Welbeck of committing a “blatant dive” but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger refused to state whether he thought the striker was guilty of simulation.

He said: “Was it a penalty or not? I don’t know.

“After, Danny took the penalty in a convincing way. I will watch it again and give you my honest feeling.

“I will give Danny my honest feeling as well, don’t worry.”

According to Sky Sports, UEFA are reviewing the action from Thursday and will reveal next Monday if any action will be taken.

If UEFA decide to punish Welbeck, he could be banned for the quarter-final against CSKA Moscow.

The Gunners were drawn against the Russians in today’s draw with the first leg taking place on April 5.
