A Harrington man was pronounced dead at the scene after he crashed his pickup truck into a utility pole, bringing down live wires Friday night on Fox Hunters Road in Harrington.

According to the Delaware State Police, 58-year-old Jerome L. Hall was killed when the 2004 Ford F-150 pickup truck he was driving left the road and into a ditch, then hit a utility pole at about 7:01 p.m. Friday just west of Hemping Road in Harrington.

According to the DSP release, Hall was traveling east on Fox Hunters Road, about 0.1 mile west of Hemping Road, when he encountered a sharp curve in the road.

Hall failed to negotiate the curve and traveled off the left side of the roadway into a ditch before striking a utility pole. After hitting the pole, the vehicle rolled over, coming to rest on its left side, while still contacting the pole, the release stated.

As a result of the utility pole being sheared off, live wires were brought down. According to DSP, Hall remained trapped in the vehicle while the scene was rendered safe by Delaware Electric Co-op.

Hall was pronounced dead by EMS when he was extracted from the vehicle.

Hall was properly restrained at the time of the crash and impairment on his behalf is unknown at this time, according to the release.

Fox Hunters Road was closed for about six hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Master Cpl. J. Lane of the Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit at 302-698-8457.
