French artists stage ‘The Lonely Room’

They sat and waited, their wait went for too long, they waited surrounded by nothingness and the empty loneliness of their existence. It was their Lonely Room.

On the third day of the 8th Theatre Olympics, France’s theatre artists Eloise Carles and Flavia Bertram brought a celebrated dance drama ‘The Lonely Room’ at the city of lakes. The Lonely Room was staged at Ravindra Bhavan auditorium here on Friday.

Directed by Eloise Carles and Flavia Bertram, the play was presented by the artists of Hoax theatre and Fool’s Cap theatre, France.

The Lonely Room is a dance drama that is a poetic plot written by Eloise Carles. This dance drama is the story of two women who cherish their dreams and their ambitions. The story shows the conflicts between the thoughts, dreams and the personality of our mind.

They are in a lonely room. Occasionally, they catch a glimpse of hopeful change and move beyond their fears. But as quickly as it comes, it goes.

Interestingly, the dance drama was performed by Eloise Carles and Flavia Bertram leaving the audience enthralled.

The Lonely Room is an enchanting dance-drama duet by Eloise Carles and Flavia Bertram telling the story of two women, each with their own dreams and ambitions, who meet in the in-between of life.

This story is inspired by the different sides of our minds: the dreamer and the tactician, and the personality clash that happens when the two meet. Blending dance and corporeal mime and accompanied by an atmospheric score by Michael Neo, and ethereal lights by Andres Velasquez, the duo create a timeless world of dreams, hopes, and conflicting desires.

Notably, Eloise Carles is a performer and illustrator from France. She left France to study at the International School of Corporeal Mime directed by Steven Wasson and Corinne Soum in London. She works as a freelance mime performer and illustrator. Flavia Bertram is one of the founding members of Hoax. She is a physical theatre performer who is trained in Corporeal Mime.
