Liverpool Champions League claim made by Sky Sports pundit Phil Babb

LIVERPOOL will be relishing the prospect of facing Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-finals.

That’s the verdict of former Liverpool defender Phil Babb, who now appears as a pundit for Sky Sports.

Jurgen Klopp’s side reached the quarter-finals of this season’s competition by beating Porto 5-0 on aggregate in the last-16.

And yesterday they were pitted against City, who overcame Basel at that stage despite losing the second leg of their tie.

Liverpool and City have won a game apiece when they’ve faced each other in the Premier League this term.

Babb doesn’t think Klopp’s men will be feeling any apprehension going into the Champions League match-up.

"I think they'll take great heart and belief from their game at Anfield not so long ago, which ended 4-3," Babb told Sky Sports.

"Yes, City got stronger towards the end of the game and you saw a few frailties from Liverpool's defence, but [Mohamed] Salah, [Roberto] Firmino and [Sadio] Mane will feel as though they can score against anyone.

"I think they will be relishing this draw - probably more than I am at the moment."

Babb isn’t sure Liverpool or City would have originally wanted to face each other though.

"It's probably the draw that both teams didn't want," he added.

"From the neutral's point of view, and especially for the British and UK public, they probably wanted to see at least two teams get to the semi-final.

"Alas, it's not going to happen but what a draw. Both teams have beaten each other this season in the Premier League and it really is a tough one to call."

Liverpool and City play at Anfield on April 4, with the return leg at the Etihad six days later.
