A dash of relief for the traffic police

more-in

With the temperature rising rapidly over the past few days, the city police began distribution of buttermilk to personnel manning traffic signals from Friday.

City Police Commissioner A.K. Viswanathan launched the goodwill measure at the Labour Statue on Kamarajar Road by distributing buttermilk to the traffic constables who were on duty. A total of 2,500 traffic police personnel, from constables to Assistant Commissioners of Police, will be given buttermilk at their work spots to help them beat fatigue.

The buttermilk will be served twice a day — at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Additional Commissioner of Police A. Arun told The Hindu, “About 5,000 buttermilk packets have been distributed every day for 120 days. Over ₹30 lakh will be spent.”
