Yeddyurappa’s ‘breaking news’ ends in anti-climax

A tweet by BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa on Thursday late night (“Breaking News 5:00 pm Tomorrow”) led to intense speculation and anticipation as to what the former Chief Minister will reveal. It led to dramatic scenes on Friday as BJP workers and mediapersons gathered outside his Shivamogga residence exactly at 5 p.m.

The “breaking news”, finally when it came in the form of a video uploaded on Facebook, proved to be an anti-climax as it only had Mr. Yeddyurappa attacking the Congress government armed with a series of statistics on the alleged financial underperformance of the State under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Most of the statistics have been put in the public domain by the party earlier.

The Congress social media team, meanwhile, had a field day guessing what the “breaking news” could be. It posted a video recapping all the major headlines in the recent political career of the leader. Sources in the BJP said the social media cell in its enthusiasm to create a hype around the launch of an aggressive campaign to counter the government’s claims of walking the talk, tweeted the breaking news tweet, creating unwarranted hype.
