LUCKNOW: The not for profit organisation- TiE (The
Indus Entrepreneurs) has partnered with the US Embassy, New Delhi to empower women entrepreneurs from various Tier II and III cities of the country. A four-day mentoring and skill development workshop organized by TiE for early stage women entrepreneurs on the same theme was organised in Lucknow which ended on March 17.
Two successful women entrepreneurs,
Ginny Castleberry and Sonali Luniya who have travelled from the US will participate in this workshop from March 14 to 17 to share their knowledge and experience with UP entrepreneurs. The selected US based mentors worked alongside selected India based mentors to share best practices, experience and knowledge with the 30 women mentees from Punjab, Haryana, UP and Uttarakhand.
US mentor, Ginny Castleberry said, “The mentees have made amazing progress in just four days in regard to their elevator pitches. I encouraged them to bring their passion and expertise into the stories behind their businesses. I also spoke on the importance of marketing and sales, creating a business plan, and having a strong go-to-market strategy to launch a startup.” Luniya emphasised the importance of opportunity recognition, market segmentation, customer identification and product value proposition for growth.
Ashish Kaul, President of TiE Lucknow said that the workshop had been a great success and that all the women entrepreneurs who participated have left with a lot of valuable takeaways from the mentors. “The energy and the camaraderie at the workshop was incredible” he said, “The mentees have gained not only knowledge but also a network of fellow entrepreneurs which can act as a support system for them in the years to come”, he said.
Speaking about the objective of the workshop,
Mandeep Kaur from the US Embassy said, “The US government’s objective through this program is to empower women in India’s second tier cities through entrepreneurship and help them to set up sustainable businesses. Such workshops provide a platform for them to learn about US best practices from American mentors, form partnerships and networks and most important for them to develop leadership skills and have self-confidence, not only to launch a start-up but to reach commercial success.”
This workshop was part of Project AIRSWEEE 2.0 (All India Roadshow on Women’s Economic Empowerment through Entrepreneurship 2.0 – Scaling Women’s Entrepreneurship in India).
