Patrolmen spots track fracture, averts tragedy
Alert Track Patrolmen detected Rail fracture and stopped passenger train timely near Yamuna bridge and averted possible Accident Priya Swami ,Keyman alongwith Ram Niwas, Trackman were on patrol duty on Tilak Bridge – Yamuna Bridge section on March 13, 2018 at about 7.55 a.m., they noticed that rail head of about 120 mm length was broken at approach of Yamuna Bridge and that a Passenger Train, Shiv Ganga Express was approaching that spot. Showing their alertness & presence of mind, they took off their turban (red headgear) which is supposed to be used as a ‘red banner flag’ also in case of such emergency, and opened it to use as ‘banner flag’ and started running towards the approaching train waving the ‘banner flag’ to alert the Loco Pilot of the approaching train, who noticed the red banner and immediately stopped the train timely well before the defective track. Due to their alertness and intelligent action, a potential mishap was averted. The track was repaired by 9:10 a.m. and traffic was restored back to normal. The two days National Conference on ‘Indian Social Work: Scope and Challenges’ in Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, University of Delhi concluded on Thursday with a positive note to carry forward the process of Indianisation of Social Work education in India. Dr Sachchidanand Joshi, Member Secretary, Indira Gandhi National Centre of the Arts (IGNCA), New Delhi graced the occasion as Chief Guest and Prof Gracious Thamas, Dean, School of Social Work, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) was the Guest of Honour in presence of eminent social work academicians throughout the country. Highlighting the importance of communication skill for a social work professional, Dr Joshi said, “Good communication skill is primary requirement for a social worker to succeed in the profession. The success of a social worker depends on his communication skill therefore the students of social work should be taught to improve their communication skill as well. There is great need to integrate social work with communication to real social workers for the society,” Dr Joshi who served as founder Vice Chancellor for Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication, Raipur had took an initiative to start Social Work Department in the university.
NHPC pays Interim Dividend of Rs 849.80 cr
NHPC, a premier hydro power company and a ‘Mini Ratna’ Category-I Enterprise of the Government of India has paid an interim dividend of Rs 849.80 crore to Government of India for the financial year 2017-18. The dividend payout bank advice for an amount of Rs 849.80 crore was presented to RK Singh, Minister of State (Independent charge), Power and New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India by Balraj Joshi, CMD, NHPC on March 15, 2018 in the presence of Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Secretary (Power) Government of India alongwith Ratish Kumar, Director (Projects), NK Jain, Director (Personnel) and Mahesh Kumar Mittal, Director (Finance) from NHPC. The Board of Directors of the Company in its 412th meeting held on February 12, 2018 had declared an interim dividend at the rate of Rs 1.12 per Equity share i.e. 11.20 per cent of the face value. NHPC today has more than seven lakh shareholders and total interim dividend pay-out for the financial year 2017-18 worked out to Rs 1149.05 crore. NHPC had earned net profit of Rs 2569.23 crore for the nine months ended FY’18 as against the previous period corresponding figure of Rs 2627.17 crore. The company had earned net profit of Rs 2795.59 crore for the financial year 2016-17.

The Department of Consumer Affairs, Ministry of Consumer Affairs Food and Public Distribution, Government of India celebrated the World Consumer Rights Day 2018 with the theme ‘Making Digital Markets Fairer’ on March 15, 2018 at Kothari Auditorium DRDO Complex, New Delhi. The Programme was presided over by Ram Vilas Paswan, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution. CR Chaudhary, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food, Public Distribution & Commerce. The Theme speaker on the occasion Gulshan Rai, National Cyber Security Coordinator addressed the audience on the theme of Fair Digital Markets for Consumer Protection. This year the World Consumer Rights Day is being observed at a crucial time, when the Government is preparing itself to repeal the Consumer Protection Act of 1986 and bring in a new Act with substantial changes that will provide for meeting the challenges thrown up by the digitization of trade and Business for effective consumer protection. Monaco will celebrate the 64th edition of 2018 Bal de la Rose on Saturday 24th March, at Salle des Etoiles, Sporting Monte-Carlo. It will benefit the Princess Grace Foundation. H.R.H. Together, they decided on a New York theme, and more specifically Manhattan. The mention of New York instantly conjures up images of its famous skyline. CMD, NHPC meets Cm of Uttarakhand
Balraj Joshi, Chairman and Managing Director, NHPC, India’s premier hydro power company met Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat on March 15, 2018 at Dehradun. During the meeting, CMD, NHPC apprised Chief Minister about the status of all the Survey and Investigation projects and Power Stations of NHPC in the State of Uttarakhand. The Chief Minister was also briefed about benefits from Hydro Projects to the State and the nation as a whole. During the meeting, a special emphasis was given on the status of Garba Tawaghat Project at India-Nepal Border. The Chief Minister assured all support for the NHPC Projects. CMD, NHPC also met Radhika Jha, Secretary (Power) and briefed her about the status of all the survey and investigation projects and assistance required for their early clearance and implementation.
REC raises $300 mn via Dollar Bond
REC has successfully priced 10 year $Reg-S Bond at a coupon of 4.625 per cent and raised $300 million. The issuance received an excellent response with order book of more than 4900 million. The net proceeds will be used for power sector development.
