According to a source, the Patriots are signing Matt Tobin to a 1-year deal.

The 27-year-old was at Foxboro on a visit and now adds depth on the offensive line as the Patriots will try to move on from Nate Solder. Entering his sixth season, Tobin has experience playing both guard and tackle. At 6-foot-6, 303 pounds, he was the Seattle Seahawks' top backup tackle last year.

Prior to 2017, Tobin spent the first four seasons of his NFL career in Philadelphia. He made 21 starts with the Eagles during that time. In 2015, he started 13 of 16 games played. Tobin has technically never started at tackle in the NFL with 20 starts coming at guard and one at tackle-eligible tight end. Last season, however, he was the Seahawks' top backup at left tackle and played 81 offensive snaps. He started at both tackle and guard in college at Iowa.

The Patriots entered Friday without a left tackle after Solder signed with the New York Giants. Cam Fleming and LaAdrian Waddle are also free agents. Tobin gives the Patriots more depth and competition at the tackle position.
