A Pottawatomie County jury on Wednesday convicted a woman from El Dorado on 10 felony counts relating to possession of juvenile pornography.
The trial for Kimberly Ann Smith Gentile, 37, began Monday before Associate District Judge Dawson Engle and concluded Wednesday after jury deliberations.
Smith Gentile faced 10 felony counts of possession of juvenile pornography. She was initially charged June 23, 2017.
According to court records, the state called a total of 11 witnesses and 85 exhibits were received. The defense called one witness to testify.
The jury returned guilty verdicts and recommended 10-year sentences for counts one through eight and count 10, as well as a 20-year sentence for count nine.
The case stems from an Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children case that originated in Kansas in 2016.
There, the OSBI reports that Jaymes Dean was charged with sexual abuse of more than a dozen children. A Kansas jury sentenced him to four life sentences plus 129 years. Smith-Gentile was charged because she knowingly possessed the phones with the illegal images taken by Dean for six months without notifying authorities.
Smith Gentile will remain jailed without bond in the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center until her formal sentencing, which is scheduled for May 31.
Prosecutors on the case were Abby Nathan and David Hammer. The defendant was represented by Attorney Shelley Levisay.
The trial was the only one expected during this one-week term.
