An awareness campaign marking World Consumer Rights Day organised by Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and The Hindu threw light on the rights of the consumers in traditional businesses and e-commerce trade.
Addressing a gathering of consumers and dealers at the Narayana Prasad IOCL outlet in Autonagar, AP Legal Metrology, Deputy Controller B. Ram Kumar said the theme of consumer rights day was ‘Making Digital Marketplaces Fairer’ and that the government had recently made amendments to Legal Metrology Act applicable for packaged commodities being sold online.
He said the focus on protecting rights of consumers on e-commerce had gone up.
Chief Divisional Retail Sales Manager of IOCL, Vijayawada Division Sourav Lai, said that consumers were the most important persons of any business.
As part of the campaign, Mr. Ram Kumar inaugurated a ‘Check and Win’ kiosk of IOCL at the outlet. Consumers coming forward to check the quality of their purchase will be given a gift. First consumer at the kiosk, Md. Ibrahim, received a helmet during the event.
