The Ohio State wrestling team suffered a tough loss in the quarterfinal round during Day 2 of the NCAA Division I Wrestling Tournament, but the Buckeyes still pushed a tournament-high six through to the semifinal round March 16.
“Six in the semifinals is something to be proud of,” OSU coach Tom Ryan said.
Ryan was probably thinking seven in the semifinals with No. 1 seed Kollin Moore at 197, but Moore was upset by unseeded Kyle Conel of Kent State. Conel, an Ashtabula native, scored the win with a first-period pin that sent shock waves through Quicken Loans Arena.
Ohio State and Penn State will enter Session 4 on the evening of March 16 at Nos. 1 and 2 in the team standings.

The Buckeyes’ six semifinalists are Nathan Tomasello (125), Luke Pletcher (133), Joey McKenna (141), Micah Jordan (157), Myles Martin (184) and heavyweight Kyle Snyder.
“It’s important, really important,” Snyder said of the semifinal round. “The team race ... you’ll definitely see who’s really going to be taking the lead of this.”
The Nittany Lions have five in the semifinal round in Zain Retherford (149), Jason Nolf (157), Vincenzo Joseph (165), Mark Hall (174) and Bo Nickal (184).
