Panaji: The additional district and sessions judge, in Margao, South Goa, Sayonara Laad, ordered that charges be framed against Vikat Bhagat (23), resident of Canacona, for the rape and murder of Irish national Danielle McLaughlin.
Canacona police had arrested Bhagat for the murder of McLaughlin, whose body was found at an isolated spot at Deubaug, Canacona, in March 2017. The accused, a local history-sheeter has since been in judicial custody.
During the course of interrogation, Bhagat had admitted to having raped the Irish woman after taking her to the isolated spot late night and then killing her with a broken beer bottle.
The victim’s nude body was found the next day, with injury marks on her head and face.
