NAGPUR: Former member of Parliament Vilas
Muttemwar has been included in the all-important steering committee formed by Congress for the three-day plenary session commencing in New Delhi from Friday. He is leaving for the capital on Friday morning.
The last-minute inclusion in the steering committee has come as a shot in the arm for Muttemwar, who was permanent invitee of the Congress Working Committee that was dissolved by
Rahul Gandhi soon after becoming the party’s national president.
Last month, a 34-member steering committee was set up for conducting the 84th plenary session of
Indian National Congress, but Muttemwar’s name was missing from it. Along with him two other senior leaders,
Mohsina Kidwai and
KH Muniyappa were also left out though they were in the dissolved CWC.
On Wednesday, Muttemwar received a surprise as he was invited by party’s national headquarters for the meeting of subjects committee to be held on Friday afternoon at the Constitution Club. He then realized that the party made amends and added three missing names to the steering committee making it 37-member strong.
With this development, Muttemwar group in the city Congress finds itself gaining strength in their ongoing tussle of supremacy with the faction led by ex-minister Satish Chaturvedi, who was expelled from the party last month.
