Pune: Cloud cover and light drizzle over the past few days have led to a sudden shift in weather condition with abnormally cooler days being witnessed in close to 23 locations in Maharashtra, including Shivajinagar and Lohegaon, in Pune.

Day temperatures dipped in the last couple of days to 28.2 degrees C in Shivajinagar and 28.6 degrees C in Lohegaon on Friday. In some coastal stations, too, day temperature dipped below 30 degrees C on Thursday.

Shivajinagar and Lohegaon are currently witnessing the lowest day temperature of the summer season due to sudden onset of cloudy condition over Maharashtra. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) also hinted at the likelihood of thunderstorm and hail over Vidarbha on Friday.

Day temperatures began dipping from March 15 when almost all IMD stations in the state witnessed temperature four to six degrees cooler than the normal summer temperature during the current season. Nights havebeen warmer than normal as most stations in the state are seeing minimum temperatures higher than normal during night time.

“Isolated places in Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidharbha recorded rains on Thursday and Friday, causing the atmosphere to cool down. There has been no scope for warm air transfer from the surrounding regions as all regions have cooled down,” AK Srivastava, head of IMD’s climate monitoring and analysis group, told TOI.
