The Patriots are in desperate need of a tackle. On Friday, they had one inside Gillette Stadium.

According to ESPN, Matt Tobin was on a free agent visit with the Patriots. The 27-year-old has experience playing both guard and tackle. At 6-foot-6, 303 pounds, Tobin was the Seattle Seahawks top backup tackle last season.

Prior to 2017, Tobin spent the first four seasons of his NFL career in Philadelphia. He made 21 starts with the Eagles during that time. In 2015, he started 13 of 16 games played. Tobin has technically never started at tackle in the NFL with 20 starts coming at guard and one at tackle-eligible tight end. Last season, however, he was the Seahawks top backup at left tackle and played 81 offensive snaps. He started at both tackle and guard in college at Iowa.

The Patriots currently don’t have a left tackle after Nate Solder signed with the New York Giants. Cam Fleming and LaAdrian Waddle are also free agents. Tobin would potentially give the Patriots more depth and competition at the position.
