A 12-year-old girl was allegedly molested and raped by a neighbour at her residence in south Delhi’s Mahipalpur on Wednesday morning, the police said on Thursday.
The accused, a driver by profession, was arrested on Wednesday evening, the police said, adding that he was produced before a city court that sent him to jail the same day. “We tracked him down and arrested him,” added a police officer.

The crime came to light after the victim’s family called the police control room (PCR) around 11 a.m. on Wednesday, said the police. A complaint was filed, following which the minor’s statement was recorded.
The Class VI student was alone at home when the accused came over on the pretext of some work and bolted the door from inside, read her statement.
“The neighbour forced himself on her. When the victim screamed for help, her aunt came to her rescue. However, the neighbour managed to flee,” said the officer, adding the victim was sent to Safdarjung Hospital for medical examination.
A case under molestation and rape charges of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and other relevant sections of the protection of children from sexual offences (POCSO) act has been registered at Vasant Kunj police station.
