Brendan Rodgers makes big Liverpool vs Man City claim after Champions League draw

BRENDAN RODGERS believes Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Manchester City will be the ‘tie of the round’.

The two English clubs were drawn in the quarter-finals of the competition.

Liverpool reached the last eight having beaten Porto in the previous round while City had seen off Basel.

Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham were all knocked out in the last-16, leaving Liverpool and City as the only representatives from the Premier League.

And even though just one can progress, former Liverpool manager Rodgers can’t wait for the quarter-finals to begin.

“It's brilliant,” said Celtic boss Rodgers. “Two fantastic teams, it's going to be a special occasion.

"Obviously the first game is at Anfield so Liverpool will look to make a good start in the tie there. It's a fascinating game, it should be brilliant.

"It's just a shame that both got drawn together at this stage; it would have been nice for them to have been split up, to be honest, because they're both two very, very good sides.

"I think it's probably the tie of the round."

The first leg will be at Anfield on April 4 with the return at the Etihad just six days later on April 10.

Liverpool inflicted Manchester City’s only Premier League defeat this season, winning a thriller 4-3 at Anfield in January. City had won the first encounter of the season 5-0.

Other ties see holders Real Madrid face Juventus in a repeat of the 2017 final.

Barcelona face Roma while Sevilla, who knocked out Manchester United, will battle with German giants Bayern Munich.
