Actor Lavanya Tripathi may not have had the best of times in the recent past, with her last film ‘Intelligent’ failing miserably in the box office, but the actor remains calm and measured in her approach in film career.
“I go with my guts. Sometimes it has worked and at times it didn’t. But the learning curve never ends. I am extremely choosy with my films and I am in no hurry to sign films,” says the actor. According to sources, the actress will reportedly be soon seen romancing Ravi Teja in an upcoming film. Without giving away much regarding her future projects, Lavanya says: “I am listening to a few scripts. This year I want to rediscover myself and looking for a good role which will test me as an actor,” she says.
The Uttarakhand-born actress, who debuted in Andala Rakshasi and went on to do a slew of films in Telugu over the past six years, says that her journey in the industry has been satisfying. Speaking about challenges in the industry, Lavanya says: “I have been lucky in my career and have shared a good rapport with all my co-stars. The South Indian film industry is like a homeland for me now. I feel like a Telugu girl and talk to everyone in Telugu as much as possible. I feel at home here.”
Lavanya now wants widen her film career across industries. She says her goal is not to the number of film projects, but to explore the South Indian film industry with films and characters that appeal to her.
“I have also been approached by directors from the Malayalam and Tamil film industries for their upcoming projects. I am also keen on working in the Bengali film industry. I don’t want to restrict myself to one industry. I am currently reading a Malayalam script,” she says.
A trained classical dance, Lavanya says that being an actor one has to try learning different things. “It is also a process of self-discovery,” she adds.
Sharing her views on sexism in the Telugu film industry, Lavanya says, “Lack of good female characters in films has been a major challenge. Now, things are slowly changing. We are seeing different genres of films now like Arjun Reddy and Pelli Choopulu. It’s is a good time to be a part of the industry and changing times.”
The actor, who was in Visakhapatnam after a long gap, said she has always had a special liking for Visakhapatnam. “Vizag’s coastline reminds me of Mumbai and the city has been lucky for me. We shot for Vunnadi Okate Zindagi in Araku and I was totally floored by the beauty of the place,” she adds.
