NEW DELHI: Even as most of the Opposition today presented a united front on the TDP-moved no-confidence motion against the government, the party's regional rival, the YSR Congress Party (YCRCP), struck a slightly discordant note as it claimed credit as the originator of the move.

"Even if guided by political compulsion, TDP had to yet again follow YSRCP's lead of moving no confidence motion against the central government," tweeted YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy - or YSR as he's known- about the motion brought by the TDP to protest Andhra Pradesh not being given special status.

"After 4 years of relentless struggle and fight by YSRCP with people's support for Special Category Status; finally the nation, including Chandrababu Naidu's TDP wakes up!", added YSR.

To be sure, the first party to move the no-trust motion was the YSR Congress, which did so yesterday. Reddy just wanted to remind people of that.

Perhaps realising his comment might seem disruptive of Opposition unity, he tweeted again some two hours later to say, "even if YSRCP moved the no confidence motion first, it's immaterial", as long as Andhra Pradesh's interests take centre stage.

"For YSRCP, interest of Andhra Pradesh (AP) and its people is paramount, and above any political (one) up-manship. Even if YSRCP moved the no- confidence motion first, it's immaterial. What matters is that the rights of the people of AP is ensured and the state gets the SCS (special category status)!' tweeted Reddy.

Yesterday, YSRCP submitted a notice for a no-confidence motion against the Narendra Modi government for its refusal to grant SCS to Andhra Pradesh. The motion will be the first such move in the tenure of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister Naidu immediately announced support for the motion. And Today, after pulling his party out the NDA, sponsored a similar motion, which was then backed by a whole host of opposition parties, including the Congress, the Left, the AIADMK, AAP and AIMIM.
