Pune: A 24-year-old college student not only resisted a man who had snatched his gold chain on Thursday night in Sutarwadi in Pashan but also nabbed the snatcher before he could escape with his accomplice.
The suspect, Vishnu Kamble (20) of Rahatani, was handed over to the Chatushrungi police who recovered the student, Parag Suryavanshi’s, gold chain worth Rs 30,000 from Kamble.
Assistant inspector Sandesh Kenjale told TOI that Suryavanshi is a final year BA student of a city-based college and lives in Sutarwadi in Pashan.
On Thursday around 10.30pm Suryavanshi was hanging around on the road near his housing society while talking on cellphone. “Kamble, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle, stopped some distance away and started following Suryavanshi,” Kenjale said.
Kamble then snatched Suryavanshi’s gold chain. Before he could run towards the motorcycle, an alert Suryavanshi nabbed him.
In his attempt to escape, Kamble started hitting Suryavanshi who punched Kamble on his face with the cellphone and raised an alarm. “The suspect then pushed Suryavanshi and sat on the motorcycle of his accomplice, who was waiting for him. But Suryavanshi ran behind him and dragged the suspect off the motorcycle. As soon as the suspect fell down, his accomplice fled the spot,” Kenjale said.
The suspect tried to run away again but Suryavanshi chased him yet again and nabbed him with the help of some passersby.
One of them alerted the police who arrived at the spot and took the suspect into their custody.
Kamble has revealed the name of his accomplice. “We will arrest him too,” Kenjale said.
