GHAZIABAD: Hindu Yuva Vahini district president Jitendra Tyagi was arrested on Thursday night for celebratory firing during Diwali festival last year. He was later released from the police station itself on a surety that he would be present whenever court summons him in this cases.
Following Diwali festival last year in October, a video was being widely shared on social media platforms in which Tyagi and his children were seen firing shots in the air during the festival. An FIR was registered against Tyagi under sections 25/3 and 29 of the Arms Act soon after the video had gone viral.

Interestingly, Tyagi was nabbed by cops at Sihani Gate police station on Thursday when he went there to mediate between two groups who had clashed over some issue earlier in the evening.

“As the offence attracted a jail term of less than seven years, the accused was released from the police station itself. He was released on a bond under section 170 (2) (to appear before the magistrate as and when required) of the CrPC, after a notice was issued to the accused under section 41 (1) (Arresting an accused involved in a cognizable office without warrant by police) of the CrPC,” said a police official.

Tyagi was booked after Ghaziabad police took suo moto cognizance of a video clip that purportedly showed Tyagi firing several gunshots into the air. The video clip had been doing the rounds of social media in Ghaziabad ever since the day after Diwali.

At least five rounds are fired in the clip that lasted 1.12 minutes in length. The clipping showed Tyagi, dressed in a red T-shirt and dark-coloured shots, firing into the air with a weapon that resembles a rifle. Another man was also seen firing into the air with a pistol in the same video. Tyagi was also seen helping the two minors in firing shots from the weapon.

SHO (Sihani Gate) Vinod Kumar Pandey said, "The accused Jitendra Tyagi had been absconding since the incident. He was immediately arrested as soon he landed at the police station."
